Diplomat SpaceTec

The SPACETEC BY DIPLOMAT writes with the tip pointing up, under water, in the blazing heat (up to 200 ° Celsius), icy cold (to -50 degrees Celsius) and in microgravity. The write time is three times longer than that of a conventional pen. The Diplomat Spacetec is very similar to the Fisher Space pen, many years ago Diplomat used to make the Fisher pens, until returned it's manufacturing to the USA. Diplomat was able to carry on producing their own version of the pens.

Pressurized Refill technology

The main technology behind the pen is the pressuirzed refill. The ballpoint is made from tungsten carbide and is precisely fitted in order to avoid leaks. A sliding float separates the ink from the pressurized gas. The thixotropic ink in the hermetically sealed and pressurized reservoir is claimed to write for three times longer than a standard ballpoint pen. The pen can write at altitudes up to 12,500 feet (3810 m). The ink is forced out by compressed air at a pressure of nearly 35 pounds per square inch (240 kPa). Operating temperatures range from -30 to 250 degrees Fahrenheit (-35 to 120 degrees Celsius). The pen has an estimated shelf life of 100 years.

The refills come with a Parker style adapter allowing it to fit most ball point pens, not just to be used in the Space pens range.
